HEY NOW, HEY NOW! ALECIA VERA BUCKLES’ ART IS WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF!
Y’all, we are so excited to be featuring this doll of a human being. Based in Chattanooga (hence the “y’all!”), Alecia is cooking up some creative wonders. What wonders you may ask? Well to name a few….
Pom pom earrings that appear almost as if Willy Wonka plucked them from the Everlasting Gobstopper jar himself
Friendly, whimsical sculpted creations that appear to be having a better time than you
Colorful, quirky pieces rich with texture & life. Not to mention they depict women who look totally bad-ass and ones we would like to befriend (we see you holdin’ that Cheetos bag, sis!)
Alecia, we are so glad you are part of the Girl Disco gang. Your energy radiates from your creations and we can FEEL IT! We will end this with a pure & simple question: can we please borrow your blue feather dress?
…Now time for the feature!

What is your craft?
I wear many hats in the creative world. Painting, Drawing, Mixed Media, Design, Sculpture, 3D, Ceramics, Jewelry, and more.
What inspires you?
I truly love fashion. I love looking at street style and watching fashion shows. The combination of texture and style and figures just excites me. I also just love color. My entire life is FULL of color. But, truly, I am inspired by any and everything. I make sure to keep my life pretty open and inviting to new opportunities for that reason exactly. Everything I digest turns into a special lil colorful bank of memories that I can feed on at any moment. I also love collecting scraps and using things most people wouldn’t to create things I enjoy looking at. I am the Queen of hoarding art scraps and turning them into magic.
What gives you a boost of confidence?
There are a couple of cocktails that really boost me up. They include: having great people in your corner, the perfect outfit, a sunny day, a good workout, the succession of an amazing project, and most importantly, a healthy relationship with yourself.
Who is your favorite 70s female icon and why?
Let’s be real, Stevie Nicks was a dream. That woman had style, grace, mystery, drama, and a voice that only she could pull off. She was pure magic and I still have so much respect for her and her craft.
What does Girl Disco mean to you?
Girl Disco is a statement. It encompasses everything I love like fashion, iconography, community, and bada** females! It’s a supportive community that fosters creativity and growth through exposure. It is a community effort and it cultivates the nostalgic mentality to love one another and that is something I can stand behind.
Thank you for being a part of HighlightHER, Alecia!
